Match Details
For their second game of the year, Old Ivanhoe’s womens team came up against a somewhat unknown team in powerhouse, fielding a womens team for the first time this year. At their home ground Ivanhoe struck first on the scoreboard with an impressive pass from Cecelia Baldassarre to Romy Costa in the goal square who played on and kicked a goal. In slippery conditions Old Ivanhoe fought hard early on taking the lead 7-2 going into the second quarter.
With Annie Griffiths holding up strongly in the ruck in only her second game of football and Old Ivanhoe’s focus of keeping their feet around the contest the girls stayed in control. CC added one more with a snap from 30 sailing through and the girls went into the main break leading 15-4.
Old Ivanhoe came out of half time knowing their lead was only single figures but a strong pack mark from cc and straight shooting extended the lead. The backline held up strongly with their pre season training paying off. Their goalkeeping abilities managed to keep powerhouse goal less going into the last break.
Georgia Vlahos’s speed off of half back proved vital in getting the ball moving down the ground in the wet conditions throughout the day. Some impressive shepherds laid by Zoe Glascott allowed Anna Gibbs and Pip Snodgrass valuable space and time. Powerhouse managed an impressive goal in the final quarter but their charge came too late. Encouraged by past players and Old Ivanhoe girls, Georgia O’halloran’s extra goal kicking at training payed off with her booting two monster goals in the last quarter. The last one sealing the deal for Old Ivanhoe in the final minutes of the game to finish with a convincing 36-12 win.
The girls will go undefeated into a well deserved easter break before coming up against The Melbourne Cricket club the following week at 2pm.
