Match Details
Following a hard fought six-point loss against ladder leaders Williamstown where the boys had led for much of the day, the team faced off against St Marys, desperate to improve their position and stave off relegation. The side was without captain Mal Mitris and would have to be ready for the contest in order to keep the season alive. With eight players from last year’s U19 Premiership, a very youthful team took to the field.
The game was set up in the 1st quarter with good team football resulting in a lead in excess of 4 goals at the first break. Over the remaining three quarters the lead was slightly extended, with the final scores being 17.9.111 to 10.10.70.
Richie Skok continued his vein of excellent form with a best on ground performance. His run from half back was exceptional. Adrian Del Monte was a live wire up forward, booting five majors and Justin Powick and Michael Del Monte racked up possessions around the stoppages. Will Gough, having one of his best seasons, again featured amongst the best and David Bruno, welcomed back from temporary retirement controlled the hit outs.
Next round we face Old Mentonians away in a vital must win game to keep the potential for finals football alive.
