Ormond vs Old Ivanhoe (Seniors)

The Seniors defeated 2^nd placed form side Ormond in easily the best win this year and  are now 3^rd on the ladder .

In a game supporters from both sides agree  was a spectacle of fast play , skills and ferocious tackling , OIG never let up throughout the game and finally overcame Ormond only in the final last minutes.

The first quarter was an even affair with neither side getting on top , Captain Mal Mitris though was proving a problem for Ormond as he controlled the central corridor with his trademark pack marking and straight-line attack on the ball, Luke Velluto  up forward marked and kicked two goals and looked a difficult match-up for their defence with his height , as also the running attacks from Richard Skok .

In the next two terms neither side could break free, though OIG`s inaccuracy  in front of goal didn`t  help , but the pattern seemed to be that OIG had most of the play but found goals difficult to come by , whereas Ormond would quickly answer  with one of their own straight after.

On-ballers Sam Keogh ,Sam Gibbs and Kane Veloui never stopped though , Oscar McIntyre in the ruck or defence was superb , Max Jones and Trent Marshall in defence  also kept Ormond`s dangerous forwards in check.

At ¾ time , the match was on a knife-edge with 3 points OIG`s way , and coach Jarrod Gieschen put it to the team that this would be season changer if they could win.

Goals from Velluto and Skok who was running Ormond`s defenders ragged put OIG in front with a buffer , but Ormond fought back to gain a 7 point lead with 5 minutes to go , but then OIG answered with goals from a Minahan snap ,  Luke Velluto whose height was telling on Ormond`s tired defence and Jack Bradley  to seal a memorable victory.

Next week at home against 5 placed Mentone.
