Old Ivanhoe vs Old Camberwell Grammarians (Seniors)
Old Ivanhoe did it the hard way in cold and near the end , stormy conditions , by not scoring a goal till halfway through the third term . In fact they kicked 11 straight points before Captain Mal Mitris broke the drought with a snap over the shoulder . Though they had most of the play in the first half , OIG could not seem to overcome Camberwell`s defence who successfully forced many minor scores and OIG`s inaccuracy didn`t help either.
Luke Velluto in the ruck was again an absolute dominating force either in the hitouts or around the ground taking contested marks , Mal Mitris used his strength to provide a focal point either in attack or defence , Seamus Gibbs, Hamish Matheson and Kane Veliou kept Camberwell`s dangerous mid-fielders in check , while defenders Trent Marshall and Oscar McIntyre were tenacious in limiting Camberwell`s scoring shots. The third term started with OIG 5 points behind , but they were relentless in attacking and soon broke through with goals from Mitris, Velluto and the final one from Jack Welham to finish the game 11 points up as a biblical downpour hit the ground in the last five minutes.
The next two week are a bye and then Mazenod away.
