Match Details
Round 6 and the challenges kept coming for the ladder leading Reserves outfit, with our opponents, Ormond sitting 3rd on the ladder having lost only one game for the season.
Â
The first half of the game was fairly balanced with OI controlling possession, however, Ormond’s play on brand with plenty of handball caused a lot of headaches, a similar style carried into the Seniors game by Ormond.
Â
After half time however, with appropriate adjustments by coach Darren, the discipline and pressure applied by the boys saw them completely take control of the game, with OI adding 7 goals to Ormond’s one to end up comfortable winners 10.11.71 to 3.4.22.
Â
The game was terminated 8 minutes early due to a nasty leg injury to Matt Martin which required the attendance of medical assistance. We wish Matt a speedy recovery.
Â
There were many fine contributors in this great team effort. Best players in no particular order were as follows;
Â
Ash Steer was superb in the ruck against a taller opponent. He dominated the centre bounces and gave the onballers first look repeatedly. His efforts around the ground also did not go unnoticed.
Â
Ace Stenta continues to show exponential improvement and was a beacon up forward with 4 majors. Dylan Buttifant was also a major forward target and but for some wayward kicking would have kicked a handful.
Â
Prior to his unfortunate injury, Matt Martin collected a number of important touches, with Archer Hogg and Matt Augello also similarly important players.
Â
Tyson Deane, absent last week, took over from where he left off the previous week to again be amongst the votes. Similarly Cal McIlveen, Nick Marshall and Anthony Stenta all continued their stellar form, to again give Darren a torrid time in sorting out the best six.
Â
As noted previously, Ace Stenta led the goal kicking with 4 important majors. Nick Marshall chimed in with 2, with his second goal early in the 3rd quarter an inspirational effort roving the spillage from a marking contest in which he was involved.
Â
After this win, probably the best effort for the season given the quality of the opposition and the ability of the team to alter the game plan to nullify our opponent, the boys remain undefeated with a 6:0 win/loss ratio.
