Match Details
Ivanhoe displayed a level of intensity and pressure around the ball that had only been seen in patches prior to the clash with the top of the table Williamstown.
There was a lot of run and boldness through the middle of the ground with Minahan, Vacirca, French, Smithers, Zambelli & McIntyre, all working tremendously hard. Unfortunately this effort was largely wasted in the second quarter where Ivanhoe had the run of the game. 1 goal and 7 points to one goal straight from Williamstown saw Ivanhoe head into the major break with a tighter margin than should have been the case.
The tightly fought contest opened up somewhat in the third with OIGFC scoring 2 goals to 4 for Williamstown. In the last the difference couldn’t be pegged back with OIGFC adding a further 2 goals to Williamstown’s 3.
Unfortunately Ivanhoe’s battle with its small home ground continues – missed opportunity in front of goal during the second quarter possibly sealing the fate of the game.
The Coulter brothers – Will and Tom were rocks down back for the entire match. Post game the message was sent out to the boys “we’ll get them next time” as OIGFC prepares for an important game next round vs Collegians, hopefully heading into their Gala Night with a win and a solid start to their season.
