PEGS vs Old Ivanhoe (Reserves)
In windy conditions away to PEGS, the reserves team ground out a hard earned win in Round 3 to maintain the team’s unbeaten record. After a tight first quarter, a three goals to none 2nd quarter provided a handy 27 point lead at half time, which was effectively maintained throughout the remainder of the game.
Whilst the team threatened clear away from PEGS during the second half, increasing the lead beyond six goals on numerous occasions, to the credit of PEGS, the margin was reeled back to less than five goals in response.
Tiger Nagel was impassable down back, reading the game beautifully and taking a number of telling marks in the last line of defence. Simon MacKenzie made sure the midfield group got first hands on the football at the stoppages and captain Anthony Stenta racked up possessions, being a major beneficiary of Simon’s good work. Another midfielder who got plenty of touches was Alex Bacskos. Andrew Paine and Cal McIlveen both provided plenty of drive from the backline and repulsed several PEGS sorties forward as they pressed in the last quarter.
Jack Bradley was a fine focal point up forward and kicked 4 majors, with Jackson Powell providing plenty of run and also chipping in with two majors.
Next week’s 1st and 2nd clash with Marcellin should be a beauty and will provide a good gauge of where the team sits in 2019.
