Match Details
One hell of a match against what we think will be one of the top two or three clubs for the season.
The first quarter looked frankly terrible, with OIGFC kicking with a strong wind but looking overwhelmed by a an assured Williamstown side, while we often lost composure especially in defence. With only one goal to Reeve-Smyth due to a double 35m penalty , it looked like a huge loss was in the offing.
But in the next two quarters OIGFC tenaciously fought back , staying in touch in the second term and kicking 5 goals in the third to get to within two points at the last break.
Oscar McIntyre , while giving away height and weight to his opponents , was terrific in the ruck, Luke Minahan and Max Jones started to win the ball in the centre, Hamish Matheson dangerous up forward kept nailing goals , Captain Mal Mitris stopping many an attack at CHB with help from Sam Keogh, dynamic Nick Reeves-Smyth clearing the ball out from the packs and suddenly Williamstown was the team looking unsettled.
The last quarter was a dramatic affair with OIG getting 15 points in front at two stages with goals from Matheson, Velluto , Lee and Jack Welham who got better as the game progressed.
But Williamstown kept fighting back and Deller for them kicked the last three goals , the last possibly a `fresh air` controversial kick that was given their way by the goal umpire. Such is football.
