Donald Dowell is a life member and ex-player of OIGFC. Known to all as ‘Space’ (why, the reasons are lost in the mists of time).

A structural engineer with over 30 years’ experience in mining, petro-chemical and commercial industries, Space has been at the club for nearly 40 years. In addition to playing 247 games, he has performed many roles – that of committee member, goal umpire, player milestones writer, registration officer and enthusiastic attendee of the Chelsworth Club lunches.

Now back as a committee member since 2015, the recent flag by the U/19’s and general enthusiasm on and off the field, Space’s wish is to see another resurgence by the club to again hold its own in Section A. Having witnessed the club’s astonishing rise from Section D in 1994 to Section A by 1999, Space knows it is possible.

In his spare time you will find Space down at his house in Blairgowrie playing golf or enjoying good food and wine.

Space’s favourite OIGFC moment was being a member of the 1987 premiership side. The funniest was witnessing the late Alan ‘Snapper’ Haug run of the field screaming blue murder because another player had secretly put Deep Heat on his jockstrap before the match.
