** National Reconciliation Week
————————————————————

This week is National Reconciliation Week. If you missed last week’s newsletter with the below story then please read it this week!

The Old Ivanhoe Grammarians Football Club and the charity Big Group Hug have forged a remarkable new relationship, which we hope will spark a wave of goodwill and community engagement.
This powerful alliance combines the passion for community and the commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need. Through joint initiatives, the football club hopes to become a driving force behind fundraising efforts for and enhancing the awareness of Big Group Hug.
The collaboration extends beyond monetary contributions, as we hope that club members will be inspired to actively participate in volunteering opportunities and promote the charity’s mission through their influential network. Together, OIGFC and Big Group Hug hope to best serve the vulnerable families of the northern suburbs.

While OIGFC won’t be wearing a jumper baring an Indigenous design, like all of the AFL clubs will be this weekend, it is important to acknowledge that we have become footballing home to five Aboriginal men (four young and one not so much).
In 2022 Ivanhoe Grammar School launched a First Nations Scholarship program in partnership with the Aboriginals Advancement League and the Lady Gladys Nicholls Hostel. Andrew Taylor, the hostel director, Ivanhoe Grammar School First Nations program co-ordinator and now U/19 assistant coach, manages a household of 14 people, which includes 10 students. Of these 10 students, 6 attend Ivanhoe Grammar School and 4 of the boys are playing members of the OIGFC U/19 squad.
The School is actively seeking donations to support the scholarship program and OIGFC is thankful to Bill Nagel for his assistance in providing employment to one of the young men. If there are other supporters who are keen to support these young men please make yourself known to me.
